Topic of the report: “Electromagnetic emission during the development of macroscopically unstable plastic deformation of a metal.”

Annotation. Review of the article by A.A. Shibkova and colleagues “Electromagnetic emission during the development of macroscopically unstable plastic deformation of a metal” (FTT, T.58, V.1, 2016). In this work, electromagnetic emission accompanying intermittent deformation of the aluminum-magnesium alloy AMg6 was discovered and experimentally studied. Using high-speed video recording and a set of methods for measuring deformation, load and electric field potential, a connection between electromagnetic emission signals and the dynamics of deformation bands was established. Possible mechanisms for generating electromagnetic signals are discussed.
